To our community,
During the last few days we have seen violence and civil disorder that is fuelled by misinformation, hatred and ignorance.
Communities just like our own have been targeted and I know many people are concerned about this spreading across the country.
I think it is important to reflect on our work here at HGDT and our values :
Accountability, Inclusivity, Respect, Courage and Integrity
I was particularly drawn to the words we have chosen around Respect and Courage
Respect
Genuine in the support, empathy and care we supply to individuals.
Courage
Challenge and push the boundaries, speak up when things are not working.
Therefore I offer you this statement on behalf of the Team at High Green Development Trust.
Here at HGDT we are appalled by the violent racist attacks over the past week. We want to send our support to the communities that have been targeted. With further violence planned, we would encourage you to prioritise your safety and take care. Please know that we stand with you and believe racism has no place in our society.
We understand that this is a particularly distressing time for people who have been made to feel unsafe in their own communities. Together with you, we will continue to promote peace and unity, and offer our assistance to those in need.
Having a safe space to speak about these issues is crucial. If you need to talk to someone about any aspect of the current situation please get in touch with us using the details below.
We will continue to work together to make our communities stronger and to provide for the needs of our people, however challenging that may be.
Keep safe, help each other.
